The Wellington Phoenix have been denied the A-League Premiers' Plate.

Central Coast - needing a point from their final regular season match to finish top and deny the Phoenix a first ever trophy - have beaten Adelaide United 2-nil in driving rain at home. 

The A-League playoffs get underway this weekend, with the Phoenix to play the first leg of the semi-final the week after.
